Because GW Clearly Isn't Perceived as Godless Enough Already.

A College Democrat decided to do some interior decorating of the CD/CR office...by desecrating crosses. Real S-M-R-T, man.

The College Republicans were in possession of a number of crucifixes used in a University-sanctioned Right To Life display. When the display was taken down, they were stored in the College Repulicans’ side of their shared but divided office space with the College Democrats. When the last College Republican members left the offices this last Friday, January 23, the crucifixes were safely stored on their side of the suite.

This Monday afternoon, January 27, when the first College Republicans to re-enter the offices did so, they discovered some of the horrifically desecrated crucifixes, stolen from the private property confines of their storage containers, and proudly displayed on the College Democrats’ bulletin board, and other areas, including a bowl, laid out as if they were candy for any member of the public who visited the office to take home and enjoy. One crucifix featured the College Democrats’ version of Christ: a large penis with an actual condom pulled over the top, in lieu of His crown of thorns.
Pictures can be found at the above link. Excuse the ridiculousness of the website, but apparently this story hasn't hit the "mainstream liberal media" yet, because of systemic bias or lag-time or whatever explanation your particular partisan tilt finds more acceptable.

I'm not a Christian, so I'm not...uh...spiritually offended. (In fact, the crosses seem like such an over-the-top parody of militant anti-Christianism that I originally thought they were plants. I was offended by the implied suggestion that I was dumb enough to fall for morality-baiting that transparent.)

With that said...really, dude? You thought it would be a good idea to decorate the office with vandalized religious paraphernalia stolen from a pro-life public display? Really? You thought this would be a funny joke? Oh man, it's Christ...on the cross...UPSIDE DOWN. Lawdy! Or another one, with "PWNED" written on top. LAWL. Wait, wait, put a condom on that one! Priceless!

Next time, let's post some blood libel paintings and have another good chuckle.

And all of this after your Fearless Leader told WRGW that he wanted to "marginalize [conservatives and Republicans at GW] as much as possible"? Do you crave ridicule that much? Is your newly-earned political capital burning a hole in your pocket so quickly that you just have to toss some of it away on a frivolous, unfunny joke?

Blind fools! Be gone from our sight!

(CR and CD reactions to Christgate.)

UPDATE: The Hatchet's coverage (thusfar) of this incident.

That CD press release was a bit odd. They admit that one of their members was responsible, right? But how did that member gain entry to the CR/CD joint office if it is usually LOCKED?

"CD leaders immediately began an investigation and found that no members had visited the office we share with the CRs in the two days since the purported day of the incident. Additionally, one member stepped forward and claimed responsibility for the situation and issued an apology to the CD board for their thoughtless actions."

If the dems "investigation" concluded that "no members visited the office," then how did this happen?

Did you not read the statement? They said no CD members had entered the office again until 2 days after the incident occurred. Clearly reading is not a strong suit among GW Students.

Bill: imagine if the CRs or YAF had done something like this to a leftist org on campus... it might actually get some some proper coverage as opposed to the half-buried/messy post the Hatchet has given it (so far - http://blogs.gwhatchet.com/newsroom/2009/01/29/anonymous-college-dem-takes-responsibility-for-crucifix-desecration/#comments)

The Hatchet's coverage, [just to us a Bill Flanigenism] has been WEAK SAUCE INDEED. All they did was quote the stupid CR/CD press releases.

I'll address anon1 and anon2 separately because 1 is smart and 2... not so much.

Anon 1: Interesting point. Someone should look into that. I think the office must have a key or code of some sort, but I'm not entirely sure. Does anyone know?

Anon 2: Read the press release. Slowwwly. Haha.

Georgetown Student: The exception to the rule is the fact that the Patriot's authors are all intelligent. I can't speak for the anonymous posters though...

That is all.

i'm not so sure. from what i hear the cds & crs were working it out between the 2 orgs and then some dbag decided to send the photos and his pet theories out to any blog who would listen. sad really bc this kid obviously fucked up in a big way and its reprehensible but i think if the tables were turned the dems would have shown the crs the same courtesy and tried to deal with it like adults... it's not really good for either org... OR GW... for them to generate some media storm over it

thomas p,

Because obviously when the chairman of the college dems says that they want to marginalize conservatives and republicans on campus, we are to expect an environment of cooperation and understanding.

patrick, that statement was supposed to be a joke, albeit a stupid one. corey was asked on the radio how he planned to destroy the crs in every way and he responded in hyperbole. the crs took it out of context to drum up a story and the times never contacted him for a quote until after they ran the story. sad. now they're pretty much doing the same thing again even though he's been nothing but cooperative with them about this stupid stunt. actions speak louder than words, and if he truly believed that joke he prob would not have cosponsored events with them all semester

IT WAS A CDs E-BOARD MEMBER WHO DID IT.

you're right, if YAF or CRs did something like this, it'd be totally covered. just like when YAF waved a Soviet flag at the election day party outside of the white house, and the conservative media acted as if the liberals were communists. some liberal media...

The Patriot accepts anonymous comments [unlike the draconian editors at the Hatchet]. However, we strongly prefer that you USE A NAME. Mostly it's because we don't take anonymous comments seriously, but it's also because we hate bullshit. Have a nice day.
